NOW A MAJOR MOTION PICTURE directed by Denis Villeneuve, starring Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin, Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, Dave Bautista, Christopher Walken, Léa Seydoux, Stellan Skarsgård, and Charlotte Rampling

Set on the desert planet Arrakis, Dune is the story of the boy Paul Atreides, who would become the mysterious man known as Muad'dib. He would avenge the traitorous plot against his noble family—and would bring to fruition humankind's most ancient and unattainable dream.

A stunning blend of adventure and mysticism, environmentalism and politics, Dune won the first Nebula Award, shared the Hugo Award, and formed the basis of what is undoubtedly the grandest epic in science fiction. Frank Herbert's death in 1986 was a tragic loss, yet the astounding legacy of his visionary fiction will live forever.

Took me a few hours to get into it, but enjoyed it once it got going.
Would say though that having a large voice cast is fine, but you have to be consistent. There were many occasions where even in the same chapter the same character would be first voiced by the narrator, then by a different actor... and Scott Brick has such a distinctive voice that if he's going to do several characters he really needs a different accent!

Good narration but inconsistent

This is part one of three and it is excellent.
I have already read the book and found this an absolutely brilliantly read book. The characters are played with charisma while the narrator does a fantastic job. The book is read in a calm unhurried fashion and is very easy on the ear.
This one I will definitely listen to again

Loved it

It's difficult to not give 5 stars to this as it's such a classic sc-fi read, George Lucas later pinched the basic plot for his Star Wars saga. There's a great cast of characters to meet, all well represented vocally, this is one book to totally immerse yourself in. Is it as good as it's hyped up to be? Well, not entirely for me, Herbert does like to think himself as something of a sage a bit too often for my liking, it's almost his 'bible' at times and can get a bit pious in a zen-like way. If I'd read it as a teenager, I'd probably have thought it the best thing ever, but as an adult I take it all with a small pinch of salt, but go with the swing of it and you'll enjoy it. A story most people will get something out of, sci-fi fans or not.

Fear is the mind killer

The fact that the narration is sometimes by actors, sometimes by the main narrator is distracting. However it doesn't take from the main story.
Fantastic!
