Summary

I wasn’t sure what to expect when arriving in Salem.
Forced to marry a man I’ve never met, attend a private university I’d never heard of, and the whispers of a rumored secret society filling the halls.
This life would be near unbearable with my insufferable fiancé if it wasn’t for his uncle, his best friend, and his enemy.
When none of them are willing to let me go, it sends us down a path I’m not sure any of us will survive.
The life I was promised is distorted behind smoke and mirrors. The truth cloaked by Deceit.

If you’re looking for a new why choose audiobook series then look no further. I have been converted to a full cast narration in an audiobook and I’m not sure how I’m going to go back. The way that the narrators fully encapsulate the characters and their emotions is nothing short of fabulous. This book sets the tone for the series to come, with world building and lore that is key to the workings of this group of individuals and the depravity of the world they are just trying to survive.

This book provides the perfect blend of mystery, dark academia, secret societies and why choose, with a cliffhanger that will leave you not knowing if you’re coming or going. I found the story incredibly compelling and gripping, from meeting Skyla at the start of the story, to meeting all of the men that will occupy her every waking moment, I could not tear myself away.

All of the characters bring their own dynamic to the story, and having the multiple POV in place feels so important for why choose romance like this one. Having the different perspectives for certain situations is both eye opening and frustrating (in a good way if that makes sense) at times.

The mystery stalker aspect was by far my favourite part of this book, I love me a good mystery and had so much fun guessing as to who it could be. This aspect, despite the sinister secret society and the villainous MMC, feels like it ups the stakes in a whole different kind of way.

Amazing Immersive Why Choose Dark Academia

This full-cast audiobook was exactly what I needed to crawl out of the reading slump that’s had me in a chokehold since November. I’ve barely touched a book, let alone an audiobook… and then Deceit happened.
Give me a dark academia setting, a secret society dripping in mystery, and a reverse harem full of broody, morally questionable men, and I’m sold. The FMC is thrown headfirst into a dangerous world of power plays, secrets, and manipulation, where nothing is what it seems and everyone has an agenda. The MMCs? Obsessed doesn’t even begin to cover it. Each one brings a different energy, intense, protective, unhinged in the best way, though there’s one I side-eyed more than the others.
The chemistry is chef’s kiss. The spicy scenes were fun, well-timed, and had me grinning like an idiot with my headphones on. And that ending? Absolutely messed up. I felt so bad for her, like WHAT did I just listen to?! The emotional whiplash was real. One minute you’re hating a character, then you’re warming up to them, then boom back to rage again.
Safe to say, I’m hooked and yes… I need the next book.
