Summary

Not all doctors are heroes....

Renowned surgeon Michael Trenchard locks his office door and prepares for a relaxing evening. But what follows is a living nightmare when later he is discovered in a locked-in coma, the victim of an auto-erotic asphyxiation.

It is left to Doctor Kash Devan, Trenchard's young protégé, to uncover the truth. And what he discovers is chilling....

In his ruthless pursuit of wealth and success, Trenchard has left a trail of wrecked lives, and angry people, behind him.

Which of Trenchard's victims hated him so much that they wanted to ruin not only his reputation, but his life as well?

Control is a dark and compulsive medical thriller that will keep you guessing until the end. For fans of Robin Cook and Tess Gerritsen.

"'A suspenseful and frightening thriller." (Lynda La Plante)

I was gripped to the end, enjoying the twists and turns and variety of perceptions. Expertly and dramatically perceived and written, indeed, I particularly appreciated and enjoyed the style of writing, not too much too soon, only intense when needed, The characters were vivid, despite not being described in amateurish detail. I found the narration too fast to begin with, but then it settled and was very effective

Very different. Expertly written, and gripping.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Good story with many twists - and I didn’t see the end coming. Excellent narration too. Would recommend to lovers of crime thrillers

Very well written and compelling story by someone who clearly knows the medical world and its tensions.

This novel was an intriguing blend of medical drama and thriller, but what really hooked me wasn’t the mystery at its core—it was the behind-the-scenes look at the hospital setting and the high-stakes medical scenarios. The inner workings of the hospital felt so authentic and absorbing that they overshadowed the thriller plot at times. The medical dramas kept me fully engaged, even more so than the twists and turns of the mystery, which I still found enjoyable.

The surprises were frequent, but I never got that rush of satisfaction from seeing the plot unravel. Maybe it was a pacing issue, or perhaps the reveals were telegraphed just a little too obviously. By the time each twist was revealed, it didn’t quite land with the impact I was hoping for. That said, it was still a solid read—it kept me listening, and I never lost interest.

My biggest gripe was the ending, which felt a little underwhelming after the build-up. It wasn’t bad, but it left me wanting something more definitive or satisfying to close out the story.

Colin Mace’s narration was generally smooth, but his accent for Kash Devan didn’t work for me. It felt a bit cringey and pulled me out of the story at times, though his overall performance was solid enough to keep me engaged.

In the end, Control is a good novel with some great moments, but for me, the real drama lay in the medical side of things rather than the mystery.
