This book by J.R. Caritas is a game-changer for teenagers navigating the sometimes challenging waters of adolescence. I wish I had access to this audiobook during my teenage years. In 'We Are Social,' I realized the importance of social connections, something I struggled with as a shy teen. The exercises after each chapter were like a practical roadmap, helping me build confidence step by step. I recommended it to my teen boy and he is learning great things from it, I feel happy that he is able to listen to such a great book that is very helpful for teenagers. Highly recommended!

It is amazing to me how much teens lack in the skills of communication but when you think about it, they grew up hiding behind devices. It's also surprising that in these times where there is so much digital engagement, how can teens feel so alone. My own teen has expressed this concern time and time again that she feels alone even though I hear her on Facetime with her friends. What I learned through this book is that she may be communicating but it is not effective. This book is your teens guide to becoming a masterful communicator.

Chapter 6 I think is an amazing chapter as it helps teens through each stage of holding a conversation and really gives them pointers on how to keep the conversation going and to make sure it is effective. I have watched my daughter have a conversation with her best friend about a problem they were having and they just swept it under the rug and sure enough, the problem came out again and caused even bigger issues. After having her listen to this book, she now understands the importance of the conversation being effective.

With teens convinced that these people on screen must have amazing confidence and are never alone, they are learning that who you are on screen does not mean that is the same person off screen. Human connections are critical and the only thing that you can see for yourself if they are authentic or not.

Man oh man do I wish this book was around when my daughter was growing up. Now I know why the only answer I could get out of her for YEARS was "I don't know". There are so many good things to say about this book that it's hard to know where to start. First, the way it is written makes it interesting to listen to (and read I assume). The author takes great care to make it so that teenagers might actually listen to it. And the narrator does an excellent job. Just the whole thing is so well done from the teen stories that are used to illustrate information, to the use of animals to describe the different types of communication, to the short quizzes, and on an on! I did not know that the amygdala had 'glitches' when the brain is still forming or that words can be hard to access at times since the pathways in the brain are so new. Please parents! You need to read/listen to this book even if your teen won't. You will understand them SO much better.

Truly Fantastic and Very Useful Book!!!

I highly recommend this audiobook as an excellent resource for improving communication skills, especially in today's digital world. The emphasis on authentic listening and the importance of face-to-face interactions really struck a chord. I was particularly impressed with the advice on identifying and overcoming communication barriers. Additionally, the book sheds light on the role of parents in this journey, which is often overlooked in similar guides. This comprehensive tool is not only beneficial for personal growth but also for my nieces to develop stronger relationships. It's a must-listen for anyone looking to improve their communication skills.

Covid has made kids turn to technology as their own source of communication for a few years and as they transition back they have to relearn skills like listening, effective communication, and generally how to make friends. Confident Teens is the perfect resource to help you keep your kids up to date and learning soft skills that are crucial to helping them thrive today. Besides telling them how to communicate the roadblocks were also impactful to make sure they know what not to do.

Critical resource
