Summary

My best friend warned me about the end of the world.

Growing up, she was the girl down the street. Even then, I knew she was different. She was tough, rough, and had the strength to stop a speeding car with her bare hands. We were as thick as thieves, sharing every adventure.

Then one day she revealed a secret. She wasn't from Earth. She was from a distant place called the Arcadia Multiverse.

Her people lived under the rule of a god-like entity known as the System.

That System had its gaze fixed on Earth. And it was only a matter of time before it came for us.

But long before the System arrived, she vanished, leaving behind only a strange token that now dangles around my neck.

Yet, her parting words stayed with me. The System was bound for Earth. And when it came, I'd be ready for it.

I would triumph over this System and the new world it brought with it. And then, perhaps, I'd see my friend again.

From the author of Paladin of the Sigil and the Spellheart Series, delve into this thrilling LitRPG Apocalypse and prepare for the end of the world, teeming with monsters, magic, and lovers aplenty. Coming to a universe near you!

Marvin is a master of this type of story. He did not let us down and with the talents of Jack and Jessica it is no wonder that this is a great book. The characters were well written and the narrators did a great job of bringing them to life.
All that I can say is well done! 5* with out a doubt.

Another fantastic Audiobook

jack and Jessica bring this story to life. it actually makes use of the earth setting, rather than just having it as a start point and does a good job of integrating modern tech into a dungeon esque society - things like guns and cars aren't ignored and actually have bearing.

there were a couple of small things that disrupted the flow - a sense of time and things moving too fast for what time had passed, along with a sense of uncertainty of how long things had happened. the plot goes at breakneck speed then seems reactive. the MCs motivation pinwheels a little, but in story that would make sense as he is clearly stressed and trying to work things out.

overall, really enjoyable and I look forward to the next book. I hope we see more of the slice of life stuff alongside the combat and skills.

a great setting, great narration,

I don't think I have ever listened to story as furiating as this is... First of all the plot is quite good and actually interesting which is why I have gotten to the next books. Also, the female VA is very silent in the first book but that gets fixed in the second.I was really excited in the beginning of this book to listen but it died down little by little, first of all everything is so predictable and the MC acts like he has no basic common sense. He is supposedly smart but then he is so stupid in some situations, that is just bad writing to create conflict. Then this book series lacks all the spine chilling things that people in this situation would do. Many bad people seem honorable and its just so weird. Such a shame since the plot is interesting and narration is very good. If you pick up this series, be ready to rip out some of your hair while listening. 😅 Good listening!

Good but Really Bad

by chapter 18 I had lost the will to live. I really couldn't give two hoots about any of the characters

awful

I have read the books and enjoyed them, so I bought the audio version to listen to while driving.
I am not criticising the actors, it it the recording that is at fault. The female actor is barely audible, and after 90 ish minutes gave up guessing the story content.
I would happily listen to the book if I could hear it! instead I moved on

if you can't hear half of the dialogue...
