The first third is essentially pointless. I would have DNF'd it but hung on due to morbid curiosity.

The action in the second half is marginally better but between the (at best) one dimensional characters; plot holes; non sensicle world building and the dialogue finishing it was a slog.

The dialogue deserves a special mention, it's so packed with clichés I checked this wasn't intended as a parody. Garth Marengi would be proud of it.

The performance was fine, a little slow (I sped up to 1.1x) and it had some questionable Australian accents.

This is the first book in the series, and it’s a gripping start. The pacing keeps you engaged throughout, with interesting and well-developed characters. There are plenty of twists and turns, all of which come together in a satisfying way by the end. James Blackmore’s narration is good making it an enjoyable listen. Highly recommended.
