About this listen
Sometimes the wrong side could be the right side.
My father never loved me.
I was never good enough for him because I was different.
My differences made me vulnerable to his cruelty, and a mistake I made brought a deeper level of hell into my life.
When my curiosity got the better of me one night, it ended with me being forced out of the world I’d learned to exist in before I was thrust into another.
This new world is darker and more dangerous.
It’s filled with lies, deceit, and pain.
I have rules I live by now because the wicked walk these halls.
1) Never underestimate the level of a monster’s depravity.
2) Never take anything at face value.
3) Fight, always, even if you’re doing it from the shadows.
4) Remember everything…Because they will, and they will use it against you.
If I have to play the twisted games at Chapel Crest, I will.
For now.
They just need to understand, the darkness comes for us all, and I’m the king of it.
Shadow is book 4.5 in The Boys of Chapel Crest and should be listened to after Sinful. Please check author’s note for warnings.

This isn't as dark on page as the earlier books in the series which was a nice reprieve as Sirena and her guys really need a moment to breathe and deal with the fallout of Adam from the last book. I was so glad what happened with Sin and Cady wasn't used as a wedge in their relationships with Sirena and I felt Sirena's reaction was very fitting given the circumstances and made sense. Stella Ripley flipping between Sirena and Cady, who is also really going through it, was so good in those scenes.
I really enjoyed Shadow being welcomed into the fold; he's been on my radar since the start and I like the balance he gives to Sirena alongside the watchers intensity, even if he is hiding an inner monster too. I loved seeing a return to form for some of the characters after all the trauma they have been through especially Stitches' humour starting to come back (the line about only having brooding and fantastic hair genuinely made me laugh as did his revelations about Bryce's skills - I am die hard Sean Masters fan but J Tipstone is my absolute favourite in this series). I knew Everett and Sully were up to something though and ugh, one of the worst characters from another series has also popped up which cannot lead to anything good...
Multi cast dark romance

I did enjoy this story. It was a slower pace than the others in the series. I felt this was a process and healing book due to traumatic events in the previous, and I love that they aren't just forgotten about and you understand and go through the healing journey with the characters involved.
You also got more snippets of information from the dark plot that is bubbling to break free, I would have liked a little more build-up earlier in the book, but as Asylum says, we trust the process.
The audio top notch with all the narrators, it really makes it an enjoyable read, and there were even some brilliant one-liners that the narrators nailed and made me laugh.
"After all, I am he, he is me, and we are we"
Marvellous Audio
